Campus Activities

All campuses will participate in the 2013 Walk Now for Autism Speaks. North California campuses will join the Bay Area Walk on May 18, and southern campuses will participate in the LA Walk on April 20. Visit the Spectrum Center Walk group page to view our progress, join a walk team or make a donation!

Spectrum Regional Office

The regional office celebrated World Autism Day this week by lighting the office up blue with streamers, balloons and window signage and wearing blue to show support. Spectrum Regional, Spectrum Directors, and friends and family donned blue leis to show support for World Autism Day at last night's Oakland A's game.

Camden

Staff and students will celebrate World Autism Day on April 2 wearing blue, and we will hold a contest for the most spirited staff and student. Each classroom will also be making an Autism Awareness month poster to hang at the school. Later this month, we will be starting our fund-raising efforts for the Autism Speaks walk in May. Photos coming soon!

Daly City

On April 2, everyone will wear their blues and we will hold the first of two fundraisers – a campus bake sale. Later this month, we will hold a large community bake sale and silent art auction. Parents, district staff and the Daly City Police Department will be invited.

Delta

Delta students are creating blue foot prints that will be placed around the school. We will also be painting our benches blue, placing blue lights in our conference room, which is visible from the street, and decorating the trees along the street with Autism Awareness ribbons. On Friday, we will be walking as a campus to a local park all carrying our Autism Awareness posters where we will have an all blue Spring Egg hunt. Our efforts will continue after Spring Break, when we will take an all-staff photo and academic classrooms will research and report on autism.

Mission Valley

Everyone will wear their blues during a BBQ at end of April in our new outdoor space, and we will hold a bake sale to start raising funds for the May walk. District friends will be invited.

Tara Hills

Tarah Hills will highlight the creativity of our students with an art show and bake sale. Silent auction proceeds will be combined with individual and group fundraising efforts as we prepare for the Autism Walk in May. A staff photo “All in Blue” will be taken in support of individuals and families living with autism.

San Jose

San Jose will Light It Up Blue on April 2 and take an all-staff photo for Autism Awareness wearing our blues. During the month of April, we're holding a student Autism Awareness Classroom Poster Contest. We plan to showcase the finished posters on a walk to the shopping center with staff and students to promote awareness.

Solano

Students are designing blue kites, and each kite will feature a fact about autism. The kites, along with posters, will be flown and displayed at our field day at the end of the month at a park in central Fairfield. We will also hold an art fair during Open House for districts, regional workers, therapist and parents. Proceeds from art sold during the event will be donated to Autism Speaks.

Valley

The Valley campus will hold a Blue Spirit Day, and classrooms with the most staff and student participation will win a prize. All classrooms will participate in the creation and decoration of a large autism awareness banner which will hang over our front balcony for all of the community to see. Additionally, we will sponsor a car wash and sponsor a blue bake sale with all proceeds going to autism research and decorate our four front trees with blue ribbons in honor of individuals living with autism.

Rossier Park Elementary

We will be lighting it up blue on April 9 with a Wear Blue spirit day hosted by our Student Council. Other activities this month include a “Blue” bake sale to raise money for our participation in the Autism Speaks fund- raising walk, door decorating and classroom-specific education to help increase student understanding and sensitivity to Autism Spectrum Disorders.
